This week we’ve got hope for a big expansion at Amphenol, and good news for the county’s tax coffers (with one exception). Then there’s a pile of money for local artists, while yet another rabies case is on the books.
Written and produced in Sidney, NY, by Andrew Kantor.

This is the Delaware County Newscast. I'm Andrew Cantor. Amphenol, already Delaware County's largest employer, is looking to expand its Sydney plant by 30,000 square feet and cut its environmental impact at the same time. It's just waiting for approval from the state. Not surprisingly, Delaware County officials are a hundred percent behind this, and they're asking the state to hurry up with that approval. It's been more than two years. Amphenol's expansion would only add about 15 permanent jobs right away, but the company said the expansion would allow increased production, meaning maybe more jobs in the future. The latest sales tax numbers look great for the county, which has so far taken in 8% more this year in taxes than last year. That's almost $1.8 million extra into the coffers, and that's only through the end of July. And no, county officials still won't share that money with towns and villages. While we're talking taxes, though, the county will have to give Saputo Dairy in Delhi a property tax refund. It's a bit more than 20 grand, because it had apparently overvalued the property and a court reduced the assessment. The Delaware County Arts Grant Program has $175,000 from the state to distribute to local artists in 2027, so it's offering grants up to $7,500 per artist. If you're an artist, there are three categories of grants. One is for community arts, which means programs that bring art and culture to local communities. One is for creative learning, which covers educational arts programs. And finally, there are grants for individual artists to, well, create art. Applications open October 17th and they close mid-January. It's all being run by the Roxbury Arts Group, and you can get more information from its website, roxburyartsgroup.org. Just use the opportunities menu to find grant information. Yet another rabid raccoon has been found in Delhi. Two dogs and a human were exposed to it, whatever that means. The dogs were vaccinated, so they're fine, and the human is getting some proactive treatment. If you're keeping track, that's four rabies cases in the county this year. If you'd like to get your dog, cat, or ferret a rabies shot, I mean your dog has to be vaccinated by law, the county's next free rabies vaccination clinic is the evening of October 5th at the Deposit Highway Garage on Front Street in obviously deposit. You can get more information from Delaware County Public Health Services. A quick search will find its website. And that's your quick peek at what's been happening in Delaware County this week.
