This
is
the
Delaware
County
Newscast
with
a
bit
of
the
most
interesting
news
from
around
the
county
this
week.
I'm
Andrew
Cantor.
The
Delaware
County
Economic
Development
Committee
heard
the
report
about
its
big
social
media
advertising
push
that's
meant
to
increase
tourism
to
the
area.
An
optimist?
An
optimist
would
appreciate
how
much
new
traffic
is
being
driven
to
the
county's
tourism
site,
especially
people
from
out
of
state.
But
a
pessimist
would
note
that
ad
viewers
and
website
visitors,
they're
a
lot
different
than
real-life
tourists.
To
be
fair,
there's
at
least
some
anecdotal
evidence
that
more
out-of-staters
are
coming
to
county
events,
but
no
one
has
any
real
data.
Hopefully,
the
ad
traffic
is
a
uh
a
leading
indicator,
and
we'll
start
to
see
a
bump
in
tourism
because
of
it
later
this
year
or
maybe
next.
Delhi
residents
got
a
brief
scare
when
officials
there
said
there
were
elevated
levels
of
lead
in
the
water.
But
it
turned
out
that
only
four
homes
actually
have
a
problem.
Everyone
else's
water
should
be
a-okay.
The
speed
limit
in
Andes
hasn't
changed,
but
the
Hamlet
has
spent
16
grand
to
buy
four
of
those
uh
solar-powered
radar
signs
that
tell
you
how
fast
you're
going.
They'll
be
put
on
the
roads
leading
into
Andes
to
draw
attention
to
the
30
mile
an
hour
speed
limit.
But
motorists
are
already
complaining
that
they
don't
show
the
speed
limit,
just
their
current
speed,
so
they
don't
know
how
fast
they're
supposed
to
be
going.
Why
not?
Because
they
ignored
the
speed
limit
signs
they
just
passed.
Middletown
officials
are
planning
to
pass
the
town's
short-term
rental
law
next
month.
They're
planning
to
publish
the
bill
beforehand,
so
there
are
no
surprises.
The
basic
plan?
It's
to
charge
a
one-time
registration
fee
to
rental
owners,
then
three
or
four
hundred
dollars
a
month,
depending
on
whether
the
owner
lives
in
Middletown,
and
that'll
cover
all
the
inspection
expenses.
Did
you
know
that
the
playground
in
Sydney's
Keith
Clark
Park
is
called
the
Friendship
Playground?
Maybe
not,
because
the
sign
has
been
in
pretty
bad
shape.
Well,
it's
just
been
replaced
by
a
brand
spankin'
new
one,
and
that'll
be
dedicated
on
Saturday
the
26th,
the
same
day
volunteers
will
do
their
annual
park
spruce
up.
Speaking
of
parks,
Roxbury's
Kirkside
Park
is
having
some
problems
with
the
people
who
visit
it.
They're
damaging
footbridges
so
they
can
jump
into
the
river,
they're
littering,
they
aren't
picking
up
after
their
dogs,
and
they're
letting
those
dogs
run
around
off
leash.
So
officials,
they
are
looking
at
installing
more
and
better
security
cameras,
adding
lighting,
and
doing
more
to
catch
and
punish
the
people
who
are
ruining
the
park
for
everyone
else.
And
there
you
have
it
some
of
the
most
interesting
news
to
come
out
of
Delaware
County
this
week.
