This is the Delaware County Newscast with some of the most interesting stories from around the county this week. I'm Andrew Cantor. A shopping plaza on West Street in Walton was destroyed by a fire last Sunday morning, and it took five fire departments to put it out. So what's at the address? Or rather, what was at the address? Let's see. Pack and Heat Bar and Grill, an office of Coughlin and Gerhard attorneys, Walton Dental, and Bonzo's Glass Smoke Shop. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and thankfully no one was injured. Delaware County Sheriff Craig Dumond is among 15 sheriffs in the state, that's out of 62, suing the governor and the state's attorney general, demanding to be allowed to collaborate with federal ICE agents if they want to operate in Delaware County. State law prohibits local law enforcement agencies from collaborating with ICE. Dumond is represented by an anti-immigration group calling itself the Federation for American Immigration Reform. The Walgreens on Main Street in Hancock is closing for good on October 13th. Walgreens has in fact been closing stores across the country. Folks in Hancock will have to get their meds online or make the drive up to Brown's pharmacy in Unadilla, where Chris the pharmacist will be happy to transfer their prescriptions. The annual clean sweep. That's when residents of Delaware County can bring their old chemicals and paints and other hazardous waste for free disposal. Well, it's coming up. For farmers, it'll be Friday, October 9th, from noon till 1.30. For regular households, it'll be Saturday, October 10th, from 8 till 11.30 a.m. Either way, you need to register first if for no other reason than to know where you're supposed to go. You can get all the details with a quick web search on Clean Sweep Delaware County. Pro tip: if your water bill goes from $130 a month to almost $7,000, you might have a water leak. Call your town or village and they can check for you. You know who you are. If you're a hunter preparing for deer season, you don't want to be using lead ammunition anymore. In fact, the state will give you a rebate up to 60 bucks for buying lead-free ammo. Because lead is, you know, a poison? Ask the Romans. Anyway, buy steel or even aluminum ammo, save your receipt, and fill out a quick survey to get your rebate. There's info and the form you need at Hunters for Conservation. That's one word, huntersforconservation.org. And there you have it. Some of the most interesting news to come out of Delaware County this week. You can always find us at DelkoNewscast.com. I'm Andrew Cantor. See you next time.
