This is the Delaware County Newscast. I'm Andrew Cantor. The ceiling of the Sydney Village offices collapsed the other day. Luckily, when the building was closed, the trustees decided, you know what? We're gonna move the offices to someplace the ceiling actually stays up. So they talked to the town of Sydney, and they'll be moving the offices to the second floor of the former Tritown Hospital on Pearl Street. Still, it'll take a little while to do the move, and in the meantime, people can still go to the village offices on Liberty Street, just a different part of the building. Speaking of Sydney, while it's not an Aldi, the Stuartz Plus downtown has opened. It's kind of a cross between a convenience store and a small supermarket. Not as good as the Great American that used to be there, but it does have fresh produce, groceries, sandwiches, and even a beer cave for people who like beer and caves. Oh, here's a fun thing. Right after the Stuarts started selling gas, the Mirabeau station across the street dropped its prices. Coincidence? It took 1,400 gallons of water, blasted into the pipe, but the blocked sewage line on Cobb Cross Road in Hamden has been cleared. Better than the alternative. If you had rabid bat in Delhi on your bingo card, congrats, that is exactly what happened. According to Delaware County Public Health Services, only one person was exposed, and uh he or she is now getting preventative treatment, which is a lot better than what could have happened because rabies is basically 100% fatal. And if you're keeping track, this is the third animal in the county to test positive for rabies this year. That's that that's not so bad. Folks in or going to Margaretville can check out a nifty new candy store on Main Street. Jenny's Candy just opened, thanks to mother-daughter team Jennifer and Soren Rhodes. It's got bulk candy by the pound, tons of wrapped candy, nuts, even high-end chocolates. It is a perfect stop before dropping the kids off at grandma's. Officials in Colchester finished filling out the state's environmental review paperwork for the new salt shed planned for the town. They found that the site is actually within a bald eagle habitat. It doesn't really change anything because the shed won't affect the eagles, but it's still an interesting bit of info. If you ever think that news can be slow around here, keep in mind it could be Kentucky, where a big news item was that a man assembled a Mr. Potato head in 7.92 seconds, setting a new record. And there you have it, some of the most interesting news to come out of Delaware County this week. You can always find us at delko newscast.com. I'm Andrew Cantor. See you next week.
