This is the Delaware County Newscast. I'm Andrew Cantor. Police in Delhi have installed new surveillance cameras around the village, so if you're in Delhi, you are being watched and recorded. Delhi Police Chief Mike Mills was clear though that the cameras aren't connected to any kind of national database, and they aren't scanning everyone's faces or anything, not yet. They're just recording everything that happens in Delhi, and police will keep that video for at least a month, and then they can have an AI search it if they need to. They could ask for, say, brown-skinned man walking around after 6 p.m., and the AI would find the video. Don't think of it as 24-7 police surveillance. Think of it as an older family member keeping an eye on you. Move along, citizen. Move along. While we're in Delhi, village trustees there have an interesting little problem. They're wondering if the state will let them hang banners across Main Street to promote community events if those events have a corporate sponsor. See, State Department of Transportation regs prohibit commercial banners from being hung over state highways, and Delhi's Main Street is actually a state highway. But what if the banner is for a non-commercial event but has a corporate sponsor? Well, Delhi trustees just don't know, and they're afraid to ask. They'd rather take a chance, hang it, and then apologize if the DOT complains. You know, better ask forgiveness than permission. Walton's got a nifty new trail through town. It's called the Walton Heritage History Trail. Right now it's got nine historically interesting stops, and it's about a mile and a half long. But here's the nifty part. Each stop has a sign with a QR code that visitors can scan with their phones. That'll pop up a webpage with photos and details about the site, but the cool part is they don't have to read it. An AI called Echo will tell them about the site and even ask questions. If you're curious, you can read all about the trail and the stops at WaltonHeritagetrail.us. Do you like hiking? Do you like towers? Do you like challenges? How about fire? You like fire? Did you know there's a Catskills Fire Tower Challenge? It's a hiking challenge, not an arson challenge, to be clear. The idea is to visit all eight of the fire towers in the Cat Skills before the end of the year. You log your hikes, you take pictures, and then you submit that to the state's Department of Environmental Conservation. You'll score yourself a cool patch for your backpack and a certificate for your wall, but let's be real, the patch is the cool thing. And rather than me trying to read out this long web address, you should search the web for Catskills Fire Tower Challenge. You'll see all the details. Happy hiking. And there you have it some of the most interesting news to come out of Delaware County this week. You can always find us at Delkonewscast.com. I'm Andrew Cantor. See you next week.
