This is the Delaware County Newscast with some of the latest news from around the county. I'm Andrew Cantor. If you're in Hamden, you might be wondering about a proposed battery storage project being considered for Cobb Cross Road. Here's what's up. A French company called EDF Renewables is looking to build this lithium-ion battery facility, and it's already given the town $45,000 to hire engineers and attorneys to review the idea. A formal proposal might come later this month, but then there'd be a lot of review work before the project was ready for a public hearing. The Hamden Town Council did adopt a 12-month moratorium on commercial data centers, while over in Delhi, the council there passed one-year moratoria on both large-scale battery facilities and big solar projects, so council members have time to decide if they want to welcome either of those. It only took one request from someone who wanted to set up a little hot dog cart on an abandoned property in Walton to turn into a major discussion in the town council. Council members worried about insurance, parking, offending other businesses, and whether there was a better spot for the stand. Because you can talk about small government all you want, but then someone comes along with hot dogs and throws a wrench into the works. For the first time, the folks at Farming Bavina are going to be offering some small grants to farmers in and around the town to help pay for farm equipment, materials, even contractor fees. There are three of these available for the first year, and they're worth up to $2,500 each. The grants require a 10% match from the recipients, and the deadline to apply is August 1st. You can find more information at farmingbivina ny.org. Speaking of Bavina, the town is apparently experiencing a pretty major water leak somewhere. The crews can't figure out exactly where it is. They know that instead of something like 7,500 gallons a day, the water district is using 25,000. At press time, they've spent more than a week looking for this leak. No joy. While Sydney continues to wait on word whether it will ever get an Aldi, there's a bigger issue in the village. The bathrooms at Keith Clark Park are still closed for renovations, even though the summer sports season is in full swing. I mean, they have a couple of porta potties set up, but those just don't have the same ambiance. Trustees are considering opening the bathrooms even if they haven't been renovated. I mean, could they be worse than porta potties? And that's just some of what's been happening in Delaware County this week. This has been the Delaware County Newscast.
