This is the Delaware County Newscast. I'm Andrew Cantor. Delaware County is spending nearly $2 million to rehabilitate the Corbett Road Bridge in Colchester. It's one of the county's few suspension bridges, and it's about to celebrate its 100th birthday. Apparently the decking is badly corroded, so the county's taking the opportunity to give it a full overhaul. Construction is expected to run from March through November 2027. Breaking news! After more than a year, Margaretville trustees are still coming up with new proposals for regulating food trucks in the village. Once again, no decisions have been made. That is all. Farmers along the west branch of the Delaware River are dealing with a big erosion problem that's been getting a lot worse. One bank of the river is actually losing 10 or 20 feet every year. State and local engineers are planning fixes for both River Haven Farm and Birdsong Farm, the latter of which has lost about five acres since 2020. Unfortunately, it's gonna cost 5 million bucks to do that. So going forward, they're considering several new strategies for stabilizing riverbanks before they start to seriously erode. You know, an ounce of prevention, yada yada yada. And this is important. As Jeff Russell from the Delaware County Soil and Water Conservation District put it, what's being washed away is, quote, the most productive soils we have in the county, unquote. If you're in Stamford and find some kind of problem with the water, you should know that the public works folks have been responding daily to beavers. Beavers plugging the pipes on Buntline Street and at the wellhouse, the more you know. Just a reminder that primary elections are coming up on June 23rd. That's for U.S. Congress, State Senate, and Assembly, and some local races. Polls will be open from 6 in the morning till 9 at night. Remember though, if you want to vote absentee, your ballot has to be postmarked by June 23rd. And nowadays that takes a few days because it happens at one of the big sorting facilities, not locally anymore. So be sure to mail yours by June 19th or 20th. If you want to know more, visit the Delaware County Board of Elections website. And if you know someone between 14 and 21 who's looking for a summer job, you might want to check out the Delaware County Summer Youth Employment Program. Basically, businesses and organizations get state and county money to hire students for a month from July 6th through August 7th. The kids get paid 16 bucks an hour for up to 200 hours of work, and that could be work at anything from a farm to a restaurant to a school. If you want more info, just search online for Delaware County Summer Youth Program. And that's your quick look at just some of what's been happening around Delaware County this week. Did you know you can hear us weekends on WDLA at 92.1 FM or anytime at Delko Newscast.com. Until next week, I am Andrew Cantor. Thanks for being here.
